Breast Health Tips
What can you do for optimal breast health?
- Get screened at one of our locations. Ask your doctor about the screening schedule right for you.
- Perform Breast Self Exam (BSE) once a month, right after your period ends.
- Be food wise. How? First, take stock of what you eat. The typical diet consists of a lot of "non-nutritive" foods (like soda, high sugar snacks and fast food). Commit to swapping a portion of non-nutritive food that may be in your diet for great fuel foods like whole grains, vegetables and fruits.
- Move your body! The latest studies on exercise and cancer prevention recommend a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate exercise, 5 days per week. Consider walking, yoga, pilates, tai chi or weight training. Keep doing what you love or find out what your body loves to do!
- Don't smoke. If you do smoke, find the support to quit. Visit healthdistrict.org or call them at 224-5209 for local help. The state's coquitline.org is a great resource, too.
- Know your healthy weight range and limit weight gain as you age. Excess pounds = increased cancer risk.
- Take care of yourself and the important women in your life! Encourage mothers, daughters, sisters and friends to get screened and be healthy.
