The fourth annual Hair Raiser will be held April 15 to cut and donate hair from people of all ages to make wigs for cancer patients who lose hair during chemotherapy treatment.
The event from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Fossil Ridge High School, Fort Collins, will bring together northern Colorado salons in a friendly hair-cutting competition. Area stylists volunteer their services, providing free cuts and beautiful styles.
Hair must be at least eight inches long when secured in a ponytail in order to donate.
Donors can also have their hair cut in advance and bring the donated locks to the event. Instructions for cutting hair in advance: www.pvhs.org/raisesomehair
Once the wigs are manufactured, the American Cancer Society distributes them at no cost to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
The American Cancer Society reports that almost 60 percent of women undergoing cancer treatment regard hair loss as the single worst side-effect of treatment.
