Hosts LIVESTRONG Program for Cancer Survivors
University of Colorado Health is offering a program to help cancer survivors make the transition from active treatment to post-treatment care. Developed by the Cancer Support Community and LIVESTRONG, the program was created to bridge the gap between cancer treatment and life following cancer.
The program, Cancer Transitions: Moving Beyond TreatmentTM, will start June 13 and run consecutive Wednesday evenings until July 18.
The six sessions will be held Wednesdays from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Poudre Valley Hospital. Expert panelists at the six sessions will include physicians, nutritionists and physical therapists from Poudre Valley Cancer Network who will discuss various topics. The subjects include:
Session 1 - Get Back to Wellness: Take Control of Your Survivorship
Session 2 - Exercise for Wellness: Customized Exercise
Session 3 - Emotional Health and Well-Being: From Patient to Survivor
Session 4 - Nutrition Beyond Cancer
Session 5 - Medical Management Beyond Cancer: What You Need to Know
Session 6 - Life Beyond Cancer
"This much needed program, which is offered at no cost to participants, will provide northern Colorado cancer survivors with information and tools to make the transition into living a full and productive life as a survivor," said Marianne Pearson, an oncology social worker at Poudre Valley Cancer Network and Cancer Transitions facilitator. "Specifically, the program addresses exercise, nutrition, emotional health, quality of life and medical management after cancer treatment ends."
For more information or to register for Cancer Transitions, contact Audrey Heaton at 970-297-6176 or afh@pvhs.org. In addition to the program which begins in June, another six-week series will be held consecutive Saturday mornings beginning August 25th, 9:30 a.m. to noon. Cancer survivors interested in participating in the August sessions can sign up now.
