Bonnie Clipper named MCR chief nursing officer
Medical Center of the Rockies has announced that Bonnie Clipper will become the hospital’s chief nursing officer effective Feb. 20.

“We are delighted to have Bonnie on our team,” said George Hayes, MCR president and CEO. “Bonnie’s unique set of skills, experience and knowledge will be a tremendous resource to our organization, particularly in anticipation of the challenges and opportunities that health care reform will bring to our health care system.”
Clipper most recently served as the associate vice president for professional nursing practice and development for Texas-based St. David’s HealthCare. Prior to that role, she worked 10 years as the chief nursing officer at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas, and two years as the chief nursing officer at RUSH-Oak Park Hospital in Oak Park, Ill. She also has worked as an internal consultant at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
Clipper will oversee patient care and nursing operations at MCR, which now employs more than 580 registered nurses.
She holds a doctorate in nursing practice from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She also earned a Master of Arts degree in health and human services administration from St. Mary’s University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Lewis University. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Winona State University.
The author of “The Nurse Manager’s Guide to an Intergenerational Workforce,” Clipper is also the creator of newnursesuccess.com, a website for new graduates, faculty and preceptors, and a speaker on the new nurse transition and the multi-generational workforce.
The nursing program she is joining at MCR has a rich history of excellence. In 2010, MCR was the first hospital in Loveland to receive the prestigious Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, which recognizes a health care organization’s commitment to quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovation in professional nursing practice. The nursing program also has been recognized in recent years through the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses’ Beacon Award, the Emergency Nurses Association’s Lantern Award and the American Nurses Association’s nursing quality awards based on the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators.
