Poudre Valley Health System operates as a private, not-for-profit organization with 501(c)3 status granted by the Internal Revenue Service.
This means that PVHS serves its communities by reinvesting its net earnings, or profit, to improve its services and facilities. PVHS earns a profit to benefit patients -- not shareholders. As a not-for-profit health care system, PVHS does not have shareholders who own it.
PVHS does not receive local property tax revenue from residents in the Fort Collins-Loveland area.
Since 1995, local property taxes that used to go to PVHS have been paid to the Health District of Northern Larimer County. It was in that year that PVHS was created as a private, not-for-profit health care organization.
