Different cancers require different treatments, and there is no one, linear path in a cancer journey.
Your cancer requires care from many specialists, each with unique expertise and advanced training to diagnose and treat cancer. Our multidisciplinary approach to cancer care brings these cancer specialists together, so you have an expert team collaborating on the best treatment plan for you.
Depending on your cancer type and stage, you may experience some or all of our cancer services. Your treatment team will help you determine which services will be part of your treatment plan.
Poudre Valley Cancer Network's Treatment Services
Diagnostic Imaging (Radiology) and Laboratory: imaging studies of the body, or blood or fluid specimen tests that help find cancer, tell how far a cancer has spread, guide delivery of certain treatments, or find out if a treatment is working.
Pathology: the analysis of tissues and cells to help determine the absence or presence of a cancer. A pathology report describes how cells look under a microscope and helps your doctors make a diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
Surgery: can play two roles in cancer treatment. Diagnostic surgery is used to remove all or a part of a tumor for evaluation by a pathologist to determine whether or not the cells are cancerous. Surgery can also be effective at curing early stage cancers because it can potentially remove all of the early stage cancerous cells.
Chemotherapy and Biological Therapies: are systemic medicines (medicines that travel throughout the body via the bloodstream) used to treat certain cancers. These treatments are used alone or in combination with surgery and/or radiation to treat cancers. Chemotherapies or biologic therapies are used because they circulate throughout the body to treat areas where cancerous cells may have spread.
Radiation Therapy: targeted treatment that uses ionizing radiation to destroy cancer cells that may remain in the area after surgery and/or systemic treatment.
Hormonal Therapy: Hormones are naturally occurring chemicals in the body that can affect cancer cell growth. Therefore, drugs that block hormone production or change the way hormones work, and/or the removal of organs that secrete hormones, such as the ovaries or testicles, can be methods ofor treating a cancer. Hormone therapy, similar to chemotherapy, is a systemic treatment in that it may affect cancer cells throughout the body.
Multidisciplinary Care: the expert, team approach to cancer care. Multidisciplinary cancer care brings cancer experts of different specialties together to review your cancer and recommend a treatment plan.
Genetic Counseling and Testing Consultation: provides choices about genetic testing, education about genes and their role in cancer risk, obtains a detailed family history and reviews the chances for getting cancer and the ways to keep risk as low as possible.
Clinical Trials: research studies that help answer medical questions with the goal for improvements in cancer treatment and health. Poudre Valley Cancer Network offers a team of 12 oncology research nurses and associates to help interested patients enroll in clinical trials.
Patient Navigation: customized, expert guidance through cancer treatment and the Poudre Valley Cancer Network. Our Patient Navigators provide free help with understanding a diagnosis, accessing cancer information, finding financial resources to help during cancer, and more.
Cancer Rehabilitation: Engage Rx is the cancer rehabilitation program offered by Poudre Valley Cancer Network. Designed for patients currently in or finished with treatment, the program provides for evaluation by a physical therapist and the creation of an individualized exercise plan for the patient.
Cancer Support Services: additional cancer care services that can help make all the difference during cancer treatment. From patient navigation to Sharing the Cancer Journey, these services help patients and their loved ones connect to complementary care options, helpful resources, support and education during cancer diagnosis and treatment.
