How a CT scan works

During the scan, you will lie on a table inside a machine called a gantry.

An X-ray tube inside the wall of the gantry rotates around your body sending small amounts of radiation through it at different angles. Detectors measure the amount of radiation passing through your body and convert it to electrical signals. The computer assigns image density ranging from shades of black to white based on the electric signals.
