There is little preparation for X-ray exams, but you may be asked to remove metal jewelry and clothing with metal fasteners. The X-ray takes just a few minutes, but extra time is needed to check in. Some X-rays use a contrast medium. Contrast medium appears bright white on the X-ray and gives the radiologist a more accurate picture.
