The MRI procedure is noisy but painless. There are no moving parts to see during the scanning. You will hear tapping and thumping sounds that are made by the magnet. For your safety, ear protection will be provided to block out these sounds. It is very important that you lie still throughout the scans. The MRI technologist will stay in constant communication by talking to you in between the scans. We will provide an interpreter for non-English speaking patients. The procedure should last 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the information needed by your physician. Additional time may be required.
A radiologist will interpret your images and send the results to the physician who ordered the procedure.
MRI procedures pose almost no risk to most patients when safety guidelines are followed. Possible risks are associated with allergies to the contrast agent and will be assessed by your radiologist and nurses.
