Poudre Valley Health System and University of Colorado Hospital at the Anschutz Medical Campus signed a letter of intent in June 2011 allowed them to explore creating a joint operating agreement.
Work by the two sides on the joint operating agreement has steadily progressed, with no significant hurdles remaining to create the state's largest locally owned health system.
Poudre Valley Health System board of directors and the University of Colorado Hospital board of directors voted in June to move forward in creating a partnership between the institutions. A new system would bring together two outstanding organizations that have a national reputation for providing community-based care.
Health insurance reform, the increasing complexity and cost of treating patients and a projected shortage of medical professionals were all determining factors in the decision to pursue a joint operating agreement.
Should University of Colorado Hospital and Poudre Valley Health System enter into a joint operating agreement, a joint operating organization will be formed to oversee strategic direction and overall budget for the unified system.
University of Colorado Hospital and Poudre Valley Health System will maintain control of operations at their respective facilities.
